FACE
Facelift and necklift
A facelift is a procedure to address the signs of ageing in your lower face, such as jowls, loose skin, and deep creases.
It tightens and lifts the skin and muscles to give a smoother and more refreshed look. It is usually combined with a necklift, which helps define your neck and jawline by removing sagging neck skin and excess fat under your chin.
The aim of surgery is always to help restore a youthful appearance but to retain a natural look, without over-correction or obvious signs that you’ve had a procedure.
The terminology around facelifts can be very confusing — deep-plane, SMAS lift, MACS lift, and mini-facelift are just some of the terms you might hear. It’s therefore important that we take time in clinic to discuss the various techniques, understand their benefits and limitations, and decide which best suits your goals.
Generally, a facelift is done under general anaesthetic and requires an overnight stay in hospital. The scars are well-concealed in your sideburns and the creases immediately in front of and behind your ear. Sometimes, an additional scar is needed under your chin.
Typically, you will have quite a lot of swelling and bruising after the operation, particularly in the first two weeks after surgery. You will start to look and feel a lot better in the third week, although the final aesthetic result takes around six months to settle.
