Lipomodelling
Lipomodelling — also known as fat transfer or fat grafting — is a technique that transfers your own fat from one area of your body to another.
Fat is removed with liposuction, typically from your flanks, thighs, or abdomen. It is then purified and re-injected where needed.
This technique is helpful for both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and is often combined with other procedures:
-
Breast augmentation: fat transfer can be used in combination with an implant, which is called “composite” breast augmentation. The fat helps to increase your breast volume and to thicken the tissue over your implant, so that the implant edges cannot be felt or seen.
-
Breast mastopexy (uplift): during a breast uplift, fat can be injected into your cleavage area to enhance it.
-
Breast implant removal: if you wish to have your implants removed, fat injections can help minimise the impact of this sudden reduction in your breast size.
-
Breast reconstruction: fat transfer can be helpful to smooth out contour irregularities or to improve symmetry following breast reconstruction.
-
Facelift: fat can be very carefully injected in small quantities during a facelift to reverse the volume loss in your face that can happen with ageing. A downside of this technique is that not all the injected fat will survive, and you may need more than one lipomodelling procedure to get the best outcome.
