BREAST
Nipple reconstruction
This is often the final step in breast reconstruction after cancer surgery.
There are two surgical options:
-
Local flap: A small piece of skin is "folded" and stitched to form a nipple.
-
Nipple sharing: Tissue from your other nipple is used to create a new one. This is particularly beneficial if you wish to have the size of your other nipple reduced.
These procedures are typically done under local anaesthetic as day case procedures. Tattooing can add colour later.
There is also a non-surgical option: 3D tattooing. A 3D nipple or areola tattoo can offer a natural-looking result, although it lacks the projection of a surgical nipple reconstruction.
