Blepharoplasty
“The eyes are the windows to your soul.” William Shakespeare
Blepharoplasty is an operation to improve the appearance of your eyelids. It removes the excess skin and fat that causes baggy or puffy eyelids, to give a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Upper blepharoplasty
An upper blepharoplasty addresses the signs of ageing on your upper eyelids, like “hooding” of excess skin, which can droop over your eyelashes. This can make you look tired and, in some cases, it can also obstruct your vision.
This operation is typically done under local anaesthetic, and you can go home the same day. It leaves a scar that is well-concealed along the natural crease of your upper eyelids. There will be some bruising and swelling after the procedure, but this will mostly settle within two weeks.
Lower blepharoplasty
With age, the tissues around your lower eyelids weaken: the skin can become loose, and fat can protrude beneath your eyes. This gives the appearance of bags under your eyes, causing a heavy and tired look.
A lower lid blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat to give a smoother, younger look. The fat pads over your cheekbones are also lifted, to help blend your eyelids and cheeks and prevent a hollowing or groove between them.
The operation is done under general anaesthetic and requires an overnight stay in hospital. It leaves a scar immediately below your eyelashes, which is well hidden. It is often combined with an upper blepharoplasty to achieve a balanced look.
