Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
An abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from your abdomen and tighten weakened abdominal muscles. It helps to create a flatter, firmer, and more defined stomach.
This type of surgery is particularly helpful if you have loose or sagging abdominal tissue (which is often caused by pregnancy, significant weight loss, or ageing), which hasn’t responded to diet or exercise.
The standard technique involves a horizontal incision low on your abdomen, just below your bikini line. Through this, we remove excess skin and fat and tighten your abdominal muscles to restore firmness, improve core strength, and reduce bulging. In many cases, liposuction is also used to refine your waistline and flanks for a more sculpted result.
There are several variations of tummy tuck surgery, and each technique is tailored to the amount and position of the excess tissue to be removed. They range from a mini-abdominoplasty, which targets a small area below your belly button, to more extensive procedures like an extended or fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty, which address a larger area and require longer incisions.
If you’re thinking about abdominoplasty, we’ll take time during your consultation to understand your goals, assess your anatomy, and explain which technique would be most appropriate. We’ll also talk through the recovery process so you can plan with confidence.
